This project is to conduct 85-100 video interviews of leading black corporate directors and create a video library for educational purposes. The video archive will document the corporate board experiences, insights, and perspectives of leading black directors. The goal of the project is to inspire more minority candidates to aspire to and prepare for board service. The project’s goals are also to encourage minority candidates from non traditional sources such as the military, higher education and government to do likewise.
The project consists of three parts: 1. The aforementioned collection of video recordings 2. A Summary Report and 3. Several podcasts on single subjects again for educational purposes. The persons interviewed include a cross section of leading black directors representing gender, tenure, professional background and industry.
The persons interviewed include long standing directors both retired and still active as well as more recently appointed directors. The interviews cover 1. Considering and preparing for corporate board service. 2. Becoming effective once on boards and 3. Understanding and improving the upcoming environment focusing on increasing black board representation.
The interviews are expected to be housed in the libraries of several business schools and colleges. The summary report will be widely distributed to corporate directors, aspiring minority candidates, business schools and organizations. Finally the project intends to produce several single subject podcasts again for educational purposes.
The project has approximately 20 financial sponsors and is targeted to be completed by the end of the first quarter 2024.
